The “S.A.M.” equipment is designed and built to be used in a Class I, Group A through D; or Class II, Group E environment. The machine is enclosed and insulated not only to protect the operators, but also to make the machine energy efficient. The SAM Rotary Index Spray Machine is ideal for spraying round or tubular shaped parts. Parts can be I.D. or O.D. sprayed or both at the same time.
Tooling can be designed to either hold an individual single part or if the part configuration allows, it can be stacked. This stacking of identically shaped parts will increase production output.
The Allen Bradley RsView touch screen controls all aspects of the machine by simply entering a part number or a “recipe”. The machine will automatically adjust to the requirements of a particular application. This coupled with the quick change tooling facilitates quick changeovers and minimal downtime.
Custom made tooling can be designed and manufactured to accommodate most any customer’s needs or requirements.

Variable Speed Drive
The “AC” inverted variable frequency drive package controls the broad range of spindle rotation speeds. The SAM is capable of a wide range of spindle r.p.m. speeds; this range on our standard equipment is 7r.p.m. to 90 r.p.m. Not only can the spindle r.p.m. be controlled, the main indexer can be either increased or decreased to suit the particular component requirements.
Note: This spindle speed can easily be altered to suit any particular customer requirements if different from our standard system.
Stainless Steel Booth
The spray booth at the rear of the machine is constructed from 304 stainless steel, fully welded to form an enclosure that can withstand the demanding requirements of solvent based sprays as well as water based sprays.
The spray booth also incorporates air impingers (diverters) that turn the air several times to eliminate heavy particulates prior to entering the filter media. Directly behind the impingers is the filter media. The filter area is approximately 1,200 sq. in. The impingers are easily accessible for removal for cleaning and access to the filter media.
Spray Booth Doors
The spray booth area is only accessible through the heavily constructed dual doors. The booth doors have tempered glass for viewing the spray cycle. The doors have a cam style door lock mechanism that secures both doors in the closed position.
The machine will purge itself until the “VOC” laten air reaches safe levels. Only then will it allow entry into the enclosed spray booth.
Electrical safety switches are also utilized should the pneumatic safety locks be overridden and the doors opened.
Activation of the electrical safety interlocks will cause the machine to immediately shut down.
Our patented air capture system provides a means to capture and contain VOC’s generated in the spraying and flashing off of materials being applied.
Through ductwork, dampers, filters, and blowers, the collecting and discharging of VOC’s is efficiently accomplished.
The VOC’s are in turn delivered to an oxidizer unit that destroys them to comply with EPA regulations.
The capture system is of a “Cascade” design. This simply means that the “VOC’s” generated through out the process is gathered from the least of the generated “VOC’s” to and through the more concentrated levels.
The capture system finally evacuates the “VOC”s” through duct work, filters and blowers to an oxidizer.
A magnehelic gage, transmitter, and a photohelic pressure switch/gage monitor the airflow through the filters and the discharge airflow to the thermal oxidizer.
These instruments have set points established to warn the operator of problems such as poor airflow and/or filter flow. The instrumentation is interfaced to the Allen Bradley PLC.
When the air flow drops below a certain set point and the problem is not addressed, the machine will automatically shut down. This instrumentation can also be provided to initiate visual warning lights and/or audible alarms.
Safety is Key
Several safeguards are an integral part of any of the SAM equipment.
Directly in front of the operator load/unload station is an “E” stop pull cable that is accessible from three (3) sides.
Safety interlocks at the rear in the spray booth provide an efficient means of ensuring that the spray booth remains closed during operation. This safety interlock is pneumatically actuated and remains engaged for a period of time while the machine purges to safe levels.
Electrical switches are also mounted at the rear on the spray booth doors. Should the door interlocks be manually overridden, activation of the switches by opening the doors will immediately shut the machine down.
